Dwight K. Schrute

For my birthday, three of my friends gave me a gift that brings a smile everyday. A Dwight K. Schrute bobble head. I love The Office and I love my sweet, thoughtful friends who know me so well.

today's five

I'm thankful for...

1. My youth life group. What great kids!

2. Jeans. Even in the summer, they're still my favorite.

3. Being able to listen to the pre-school choir today in church. There is nothing sweeter than hearing 3-5 year olds sing their hearts out about Jesus.

4. A membership to the Y.

5. New friendships.

Mother's Day Weekend

In my opinion all holidays (that includes birthdays) need more than just one day to be celebrated right. At our house, we have birthday week, Mother's Day weekend, Christmas month, etc. Today I was thinking back over my Mother's Day Weekend. It was a good one~ from Friday to Sunday.

Friday we had dinner with good friends. The kids played great. We had good, relaxing, real conversation. Stayed up late, drank coffee. A great time.

Saturday was Grant's last soccer game of the season. They didn't win, but they ran and played hard. It was warm and we soaked up some sun. Swam in the afternoon. That evening we went to a beautiful wedding that included an open air train ride from the train depot to a local winery. There was a cool breeze. It really was a perfect night for it. The dance time included a "light-saber" dance for all the little boys in attendance. When you're seven, that's pretty cool.

Sunday, we ate one of my favorite breakfasts, Orange French Toast and I got to open my presents. In the first bag, I found a purple, green, blue and yellow vase. Grant made it at school. It was painted and then fired. It's great. He even thought to paint the inside. In the second bag, I found the first two seasons of The Office on DVD. Not bad at all!! Perfect gifts. We went to church, out to lunch, and then the boys went swimming. I spent some time on the phone with my mom since we couldn't be together. The night ended with a viewing of season one of The Office.

One of my favorite parts of the weekend came on Sunday night as Grant was heading off to bed. I thanked him for making my day so special. He said "Your welcome, but don't worry, Mom, I'll still love you tomorrow even though it won't be Mother's Day."

That's good to know~ I sure am glad that's the little boy God chose to give me.

Just for fun

What I'm thankful for today...

1. The transmission on our car needs to be replaced. I know that seems like a strange thing to be thankful for, but here's more detail. Honda had extended the warranty on the transmission for 2001 Accords to 100,000 miles because some of them had trouble. Even though we are 19,000 miles over the warranty, they are giving us the transmission for free, all we pay for is the labor. That will save us a significant amount of money. YEA!

2. My funny kid- he just cracks me up.

3. Flip-flops

4. Dandelions

5. Air conditioning.

Theme Song

Cool. I love that this came up as my theme song. It made me smile.

Your Theme Song is Beautiful Day by U2

"Sky falls, you feel like

It's a beautiful day

Don't let it get away"

You see the beauty in life, especially in ordinary everyday moments.

And if you're feeling down, even that seems a little beautiful too.

Will I ever forget?

Last night we watched World Trade Center. I felt like I was back in 2001 re-living those terrible days. It even filled my dreams. The emotions it evoked were strong, but I'm glad I watched it.

This morning I pulled out my journal and read something I wrote on the fifth anniversary of September 11.

"September 11, just writing that date makes my heart skip a beat. Five years have past since since that day, but seeing the date written down brings it all back.

Will I ever forget...

The shock of watching that first plane hit the tower?

The feeling of knowing we were under attack when the second plane hit the tower?

The panic that came with the question what's next as the next two planes crashed?

The sight of President Bush, standing side by side with the NYFD fire fighter, declaring our intention to protect our country and our freedoms.

The posters taped up around ground zero for missing loved ones?

The palpable grief of hundreds of NYFD and NYPD families who lost their heroes?

Bodies falling from the windows of the towers?

The moment the towers fell?

How beautiful the sky was and how surreal that felt?

The families of victims being interviewed?

The inability to wake up for several mornings after that day with out
praying "Please, let it all be a horrible night-mare."

The celebration of our country's loss by some nations around the world?

The kindness, generosity, and selflessness shown by US citizens and citizens of many countries around the world, as they waited in line for hours to give blood, donated money, or drove for hours just for the chance to help?

The tears?

Hiking in the state park that weekend to get back to some kind of normalcy.
Lots of other people must have had the same need. The park was full. While we were hiking a plane flew over head. Everyone on the trail became silent, looked up, and just stood there~ waiting?

The feeling that nothing will ever be the same?

Will I ever forget? I hope not.

The lessons from that day were painful, but the best ones usually are. Every second counts. Community is important. Freedom can't be taken for granted. Life is precious.

No, I never want to forget.

Seven Random Things about Me

I was tagged, so I guess I'm it......

1. I don't like raisins or cherries cooked in anything.

2. I read everything. Books, magazines, cereal boxes, water bottles, candy wrappers~ everything.

3. When I was nine years old, I fell off the monkey bars in my back yard and had to get 14 stitches in my nose. Anytime I've ever had stitches, they've been on my face.

4. I would drive a long way to see U2 in concert.

5. I have a journal just to hold my favorite movie quotes and other random favorite quotes.

6. I miss Dunkin' Donuts.

7. I love to hike.

If you're reading this, you're tagged!

Five more...

I'm thankful for...

1. Getting to pick strawberries yesterday. It was a fun experience and the pay-off of fresh strawberries isn't so bad either. And we were able to go with friends which made it extra special.

2. Grant doing a good job on his part in the school program.

3. Cinnamon rolls. Last night after the school program, Grant and I had a sweet time of talking about the day over a warm cinnamon roll.

4. Catching the puppy as he took one of my new shoes out of the closet. He didn't have a chance to destroy it.

5. Hot showers.

Another song...

I love the message in this song. I think I've listened to it 10 times this week.

Befriended
Matt Redmond

Befriended, befriended by the King above all Kings
Surrendered, surrendered to a friend above all friends
Invited, invited deep into this mystery
Delighted, delighted by the wonders I have seen

This will be my story
This will be my song
You'll always be my savior.
Jesus, You will always have my heart

Astounded, astounded that Your gospel beckoned me
Surrounded, surrounded but I've never been so free
Determined, determined now to live this life for You
You're so worthy my greatest gift would be the least You're due

This will be my story
This will be my song
You'll always be my Savior.
Jesus You will always have my heart
