Resolution

"A New Year's Resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a project or a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous. The name comes from the fact that these commitments normally go into effect on New Year's Day and remain until fulfilled.... There are religious parallels to this secular tradition. For example, in Judaism's holiest holiday, Yom Kippur, one is to reflect upon one's wrongdoings over the year and both seek and offer forgiveness. The concept, regardless of creed, is to reflect upon self-improvement annually."--Wikipedia

I love new blank things~ fresh starts. I love new journals, new scrapbooks, new school supplies, new days, and new years.

When you look at it in reality, January 1st is just another day, but the perception is a new chance to do better at something. For several years I had given up resolutions. I always either made too many or made them so big that they would be impossible to accomplish. Last year I decided to make one resolution. I "resolved" not to drink diet coke for at least a year. It wasn't earth shattering, but I had been wanting to completely kick aspartame out of my diet. I made it through the year and that change made me healthier. It also gave me renewed confidence that I can resolve to make a change.

For the past several days I've been thinking about any resolutions I want to make for this year. On any given day there is always something about me that I want to change, sometimes it's big, sometimes it's little, but I'm very aware that I'm a work in progress. :) As I prayed and thought here's what I came up with...

See every day as a gift- a new start filled with new mercies.
Listen to what God is saying to me that day.
Live in obedience.
