Saying Goodbye
On Saturday we said goodbye to a very special four year old princess. Our friends Karen and Scott's daughter Cassi had been battling cancer since she was 11 weeks old. Early Wednesday morning that battle ended. Now she is in the presence of our Heavenly Father with a whole, healthy body that will never again feel pain.

Balloons were let go after the service to remind all of us that we can release our sadness and grief to God with hope. It was an incredibly beautiful moment.

The words of the following song have been on my mind since I heard it sung on Saturday during Cassi's service. I look forward to the day I am in His house even more now.
Better is One Day
by Matt Redmond
How lovely is Your dwelling place
Oh, Lord Almighty
For my soul longs and even faints for You
For here my heart is satisfied
Within Your presence
I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings
CHORUS:
Better is one day in Your courts
Better is one day in Your house
Better is one day in Your courts
Than thousands elsewhere
One thing I ask and I would seek
To see Your beauty
To find You in the place Your glory dwells
One thing I ask and I would seek
To see Your beauty
To find You in the place Your glory dwells
CHORUS
My heart and flesh cry out
For you, the living God
Your Spirit's water to my soul
I've tasted and I've seen
Come once again to me
I will draw near to You, I will draw near to You

New Recipe
Around 4:30p yesterday, I realized I had no plan for dinner. Gabe has been sick, so my day consisted of a doctor appointment, picking up Grant from school, running by the pharmacy and holding a sad baby. I hadn't even thought about dinner. I started flipping through my new Everyday with Rachael Ray magazine and found a recipe that looked interesting and better yet, I had everything on hand- even goat cheese which is not one of my usual staples, but it was on sale the last time I was at Whole Foods.
I wish I had snapped a picture of it, but at the time I didn't know how much we would like it. The we being Todd and I- Grant was not crazy about it.
Mac 'n' Goat Cheese
1 lb macaroni pasta- (I used whole wheat penne)
1/4 cup olive oil
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 pint cherry (I used grape)tomatoes, halved
One 9 oz. bag frozen spinach
6 oz goat cheese, broken into chunks (I'm sure feta cheese would work, too)
3/4 cup toasted walnuts (I didn't have any of these and it was still good)
1. In a large pot of boiling, salted water, cook the pasta until al dente. Drain, reserving 1/4 cup cooking water, and return pasta to the pot.
2. Meanwhile, in a medium skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook until golden, about 4 minutes. Stir in the tomatoes, spinach and the reserved pasta water and cook until heated through, about 4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Stir into the pasta along with the goat cheese. transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle the walnuts on top.

Today's Five
1. Hot tea and good books. I only got to read about a chapter of my book today, but there is nothing more comforting to me then those two things combined.
2. God's love and patience with me. Working through Beth Moore's Fruit of the Spirit study has reminded me of His loving kindness that I just don't deserve. He is so good.
3. Friends
4. Grant's gentle spirit with his little brother. Even when Gabe is fussy, Grant will spend a long time finding ways to entertain him and make him happy. It usually works. The sillier the better. Grant's good at silly.
5. Cordless phones.

I found it!
Off and on for the past few years I have been trying to remember the name of a children's book I used to check out of the library all the time as a kid. It was about a family of "people" that could change shapes. They had a cool house they built themselves after a long journey to find the perfect space.
I could remember pictures and just about every detail from the story except for the title and the character's names.
I tried describing it to people. No-one I asked had ever heard of it.
For some reason the book came to my mind tonight. Since Todd is at Bible study and the boys are sleeping, I set out on a mission to google until I found the name of that book.
After about an hour of googling every part of the story I could think of, I found what I was looking for! The book is Barbapapa's New House! YAY!
I learned all kinds of trivia about the Barbapapas. The book originates from France. There were several books in the series, a TV show and books published in all different languages. There are t-shirts, pez dispensers and collectible toys. Apparently I was just asking the wrong people.
One of the sites even had illustrations from the book!
Barbapapa's house was too small for his wife and their seven children.
They found an old abandoned house and fixed it up. They did all the changes around the house themselves by transforming into the household equipment they needed. It was perfect until...

The mean heavy equipment trucks came and destroyed their house. (I don't think we ever learned why.)

The Barbapapas would not give up on the perfect house. They ingeniously built their own.

The machines came back to destroy their new house in the country- evil machines! But this time the Barbapapa's prevailed. They defended their home with chewing gum cannon balls. They didn't want to hurt the machines, just keep them away from their home.

This is my favorite illustration. They each had their own room perfectly designed for them.
And, of course, they lived happily ever after.
I'm not sure why I loved the book so much, but I did. It made me so happy to find the title and see all of the illustrations tonight. Simple pleasures.

SNOW!
What a fun morning. We woke up to about an inch and a half of snow in our backyard. It snowed all morning, so we had over two inches by lunchtime. We built a snowman, threw snowballs and took lots of pictures. We were all a little sad when the snow was gone by 4:00 this afternoon. It sure was fun while it lasted.
