Day 6

Today is Orphan Sunday sponsored by The Christian Alliance for Orphans to bring awareness for the over 140 million orphans around the world.

Even though adoption and orphan care have become the new "hot button" topic in our churches- the care for orphans is not a new need. James told us that it is the very heart of true religion. Jesus told us that what we do to the "least of these" we do to Him. Caring for orphans is not something we do, it is who we are.

But, caring for orphans is not about us. We don't do it to feel better about their plight, we don't do it out of guilt, we don't do it for attention or glory or fame. We care for the orphan, because we were once orphans and the Almighty God rescued us. Now, He has called us to love the fatherless, show them our Father. We do it because we are compelled. We do it because it's commanded and if we love God, we keep His commandments. As David Platt stated Friday night at secret church, "The gospel uniquely drives orphan care. We are not rescuers; we are the rescued."

It's not romantic, it's not glamorous,  and it doesn't look the same for all of us.

The truth is simple, though, if we are believers, we are called to orphan care. Not some of us, all of us.

So, I said all of that to say, that today I am so thankful for these organizations that provide opportunities for all of us to live out the love of God to these most precious souls. There are so many great ones, these are just a few of my favorites:
