Spring Break 2008

Wow, this Spring break was so much better than Spring Break 2007!! No flu, no fevers, beautiful weather, friends, relaxing, and fun.

Here's some of what we did...

FRIDAY-- After a long, busy book fair week I took a trip to the lake with great friends, one of whom patiently waited for me so I wouldn't have to drive alone, even though I had to leave three hours after we originally planned. Todd and Grant's spring break started with soccer practice and going out for ice cream with some friends from the team.

The first soccer game of the season was Saturday- the game did not have a happy ending for Grant's team, but they had fun and played hard.

MONDAY-- An extra special, by invitation only St. Patrick's Day Parade. That evening a fun dinner with friends at Chick Fil A.

This little leprechaun is taking the parade seriously.

TUESDAY--Early morning doctor appointment for me to check on our little one. Every thing is looking good- he is measuring a week plus a few days ahead of schedule right now, if you've seen my belly, you'll understand that.=) Chilling out at home, eating our traditional St. Patrick's Day Corn beef and cabbage with Irish Tea Cake for dessert (it was a day late, but Todd had a meeting on Monday night) and working in Gabe's room.

WEDNESDAY--Horton Hears a Who with friends.

THURSDAY--Chuck E. Cheese with friends then Grant went on a sleep over, so we had a date night. It was just Taco Bell since Todd had to work late, but we were together.

FRIDAY--Breakfast date at Cracker Barrell, Lowes for a new light for the baby's room, and some great family time.

SATURDAY--Lots more painting in Gabe's room we finished a few of the story book murals.(pictures coming soon) And of course, the traditional dyeing of the Easter eggs.

SUNDAY-- A great worship service, the annual Family Egg Hunt, meeting our niece baby Jade and seeing Lisa who are here from Wyoming for a few weeks, and spending time with family.

There were mornings to sleep in, the floors got mopped, laundry got folded, games were played. I guess it was a pretty low-key vacation, but it was exactly what we needed.

Easter Egg Hunt

Since Grant was five, our Easter egg hunt has been a clue following adventure. When it began, I didn't plan for it to be a tradition. That year he had just really started to read. I thought it would be fun to hide clues in his eggs, plus the adventure went with the "Narnia" themed basket he was getting. But he loved it so much, the next year he started talking about how exciting hunting for clues would be again three days before Easter. So, the tradition began.

Usually I stay up late the night before trying to be Dr. Seuss making the clues rhyme. That, of course, means sometimes they are very cheesy, but each year Grant is thrilled. The clues also talk about the reason we celebrate Easter Sunday.

The "hard to find eggs" I found at Target were a new addition this year. They look like rocks, pine cones, and grass.

According to Grant, it was the best egg hunt ever.

Gordon hoping that some of the candy falls out of the egg.

In the end, the basket was in the trunk of the Honda.

This song brings me back to the meaning of the gospel and I want it to be my daily prayer. Jesus, perfect and sinless, took my punishment. My sin caused Him so much pain. It breaks my heart to remember, but I never want to forget.

Today's five...

I need a little perspective today. There is so much to do and there just doesn't seem to be enough time in the day. So, I decided to take a few minutes to sit and think about my plan of action. While I was thinking, I decided I needed to get positive- nothing helps me do that more than being thankful.

1. Our staff prayer time each Friday morning- this morning it was just what I needed.

2. All the books have arrived for our book fair.

3. A friend who would leave a pink Jimmie Johnson t-shirt hanging on my front door knob.

4. A puppy who is always very happy to see me when I get home. Dogs and their waggly tails are just fun.

5. The cool breeze outside.

Today's Thankful list

1. Saturday we welcomed a new niece into the world! Abigail Leigh was born a little before 10am, weighing in at 7lbs 1 oz and measuring 18 1/2 inches. We are looking forward to getting to know Abbie!

2. The rain

3. A great pregnancy check up today. Things are looking good with our little Gabe. We sure are ready for May. Every little kick and wiggle I feel makes my heart smile.

4. Computers! They make life easier.

5. Watching Grant selflessly play Barbies with his cousin Lexi on Saturday- because she needed some one to play with. That a big deal for any 8 year old boy to do willingly. I only saw him roll his eyes once.=)
